The

GROOCOCK

Family

  Samuel Groocock

The majority of the earliest family records in the parish registers for this spelling are for villages in South East Leicestershire – Church Langton (1564), Shangton 1585 and Broughton Astley 1573.

Almost all of the present day descendants have John Groocock of Broughton Astley as their ancestor. John was born in about 1545 but his village of birth has so far not been established. He and his wife Joan had five children at Broughton Astley between 1573 and 1583. All married and most had children but only one, William, was a boy and it is from his marriage that all subsequent members of that family with the Groocock surname are descended. Living members are scattered over most of the world – USA, Canada, South Africa and a very large branch in Australia where some members changed the name to Grocott (click HERE for more information on this branch of the family).
