The Grocock families are fairly widespread through the north midlands. Genetic profiling has indicated that there is no connection with the Groocock/Grewcock branches.

The best family chronicled so far has been traced back to North Leicestershire in the villages of Sproxton and Saltby. This begins with Matthew Grocock who was born about 1580 in Saltby. In 1675 Justinian Grocock was born at Saltby and this forename persisted through many generations. One of the descendants, John Winfield Grocock was convicted of striking a woman on the head with a hammer and transported to Australia where he eventually married and had children. Many of Matthew's descendants now live in the Leicester area but are also widespread.

Other Grocock families have roots in Leicestershire (at Hallaton/Tugby – John born circa 1720), Nottinghamshire (at Basford – John Grocock born circa 1710, at Barnby le Willows – William born circa 1739), Lincolnshire (at Silk Willoughby – Isaac born circa 1752, at Wrawby – William born circa 1716), Yorkshire (at Kippax – Thomas born circa 1697). These and several other branches are in the early stages of investigation.
