The

GREWCOCK

Families

  Albert Joseph Grewcock

There are two main branches of the family with this spelling. Presently there is no evidence that the two are connected. The smaller branch is located in the South Shields district.

The main branch has been traced back to William Grewcock and Sarah Turville who married 11.6.1734 at Barwell in South West Leicestershire. Examination of the parish register reveals that the ‘oo’ in the entry looks very much like a ‘w’ and could be read as either. Whether that was intended is not clear but genetic profiling has shown that the Grewcock and Groocock families are connected.

A likely point of connection is the Stoney Stanton Groococks. The villages of Stoney Stanton and Barwell are only about 6 km apart.  A William Groocock was baptised in Stoney Stanton in 1708. No marriage or burial dates have been found for him elsewhere. As with the Groocock family, descendants have spread throughout the world and many of these are on the tree.
